Orpheus Island AIPP Fine Art Print Workshop
3.15 am Sunday morning I was up and preparing for the journey over to Orpheus Island. As part of the advance, set up group, we had to drive from Townsville to Lucinda to load the barge with all the food, Epson printers, Eizo monitors and of course, alcohol!

Lucinda is located at the southern end of Hinchinbrook Island which is one of Australia's largest island national parks. It's mountains are often shrouded in cloud.

Our launching spot for Orpheus Island was the Lucinda bulk sugar terminal which boasts the longest service jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. At 5.76 kilometres in length and supported by more than 660 concrete and steel pylons, the jetty is nothing short of an engineering masterpiece with it's length actually following the curved contour of the earth.

My good mate Tony and I were glad all the packing and loading was done so we could now enjoy the trip over on the barge with Hinchinbrook behind us.

Our journey took around 1.5 hours and by the time we arrived at the James Cook University Research Station which would be our home for the next 5 nights, the rainy skies had disappeared.
