My latest toy - Digital Infrared!
A couple of months ago I decided to dust off my old Nikon D200 and send it down to Camera Clinic in Melbourne to get it converted to a digital infrared camera.

The process involves removing the low pass filter from in front of the sensor and replacing it with an infrared filter. Then the autofocus and metering are calibrated to allow the camera to be used normally, just as you would with any digital SLR. As you can see it can still capture in a limited range of colours but that mainly depends on how the camera is white balanced. If you do a custom white balance, it's possible to get an almost monochrome image with only a hint of blue coming through. Leave it on Auto WB and you will generally get a red cast over the whole image which is difficult to edit out so the only real option is to convert the image to B&W in post.
Here's some more examples shot outdoors and edited with Nik Software.
